Ain’t Gonna Study War NO MORE!
The visuals of the horrors of what has been unleashed in Iran and Lebanon has been keeping me up at night. On the edge of sleep a memory of a photograph on the cover of, Ramparts Magazine during the Vietnam War came flashing through my mind. It was of a villager in agony after being napalmed. Today in the NYT were photographs of burning oil storage facilities. The smoke billowing up is horrific. I think of the planet. I think of the people.
During the Home Going celebration for Rev. Jackson on Friday, Al Sharpton during his eulogy implored us, “What happened to us?” Exactly!! What has happened to us?
Ain’t gonna study war no more!! That’s what we sang. That’s what I still sing.
