Boy! Four hours flew by!! What a wonderful day of learning. My brain was buzzing! I’m participating in a continuing education course with my Neurogenic Yoga peeps.
During a discussion of postures and their implications I was reminded of when I was a very young person. As a member of a modern dance company we did a lot of experimental movement. One exercise was to watch people on the street as they walked. Then we would go back to the studio and “try on” the walks of the people we had observed. The goal was to explore and maybe arrive at some new and interesting movement ideas. What I began to notice was, how the various walking postures informed a particular mood or emotion or a feeling.
This was decades before I knew anything about anything. However, I think that it began to influence and inform my curiosity.
Here’s a good one, I was reading, “Story Club with George Saunders” on Substack this morning. Turns out he’s going to be speaking at Frances Parker school this evening (sold out! Darn it!). Then I get up to search for a magnet, long story, I need a magnet to fix something in my bathroom sink, anyway, I opened a drawer in the buffet and rifled around, no magnet. In another drawer, right on top is an old program from a dance performance that I was in at Frances Parker!!!
So, here I am on a February morning watching out into the park for the coyotes. It has been at least a month since I’ve seen them. A crow was going on and on a few minutes ago. I looked to see what had raised the alarm. Seemingly nothing. But, who knows what those crows are watching out for? There’s still snow on the ground. I saw that it will be warmer today. Maybe I can get a walk in? V. has flown off to Sri Lanka so, no walk with a neighbor. Still, I can go. I will go.
