In like a lion.

There’s a wind advisory for today. Hold on to your hats. It feels like nature’s metaphor for the storm of the people. WE THE PEOPLE!

I’m sort of in a hurry. Things to do . Places to go. We’re staging a nation wide boycott event today. I saw that some people had said they weren’t sure what if anything it would prove. I don’t know either? It’s to be seen. One thing I think is that it will create a sense of solidarity among us. WE are doing something and WE are doing it together. It will build momentum and we will see.

I stayed around here yesterday. Went out for a walk around noon. The coyote was out too. We seemed to follow the same path- parallel to each other, out across the meadow towards the beach. There I lost him for a minute. Then suddenly he was there again. He stood on his hind legs posed up on the strand wall sniffing the area out south over the dune grass. Then he was gone. He just vanished into the tall grass.

I knocked on the window of an animal control van that was parked there. The driver stirred awake from his nap and rolled down the window. I said, sorry to disturb. He said, no worries I’m on my break. We chatted about the coyotes. He seemed to have the same affection and respect. Walking away I thought, I don’t really know why I knocked on his window? Was I a bit nervous? Maybe I just wanted to share in my excitement of seeing the coyote so close? At any rate, I felt a bit awkward having disturbed him. I said goodbye and he drove away.

Then I thought to walk home. Give the coyote his space. Besides, it was so windy!

Gotta get going. I am incredibly grateful,

To be alive and sober. To have walked beside a coyote. For strong coffee. For a little work today. For a haircut. For this apartment in this place. For the wind. For momentum and possibility. For a toasted bagel.
