Reflections

Here is now. I am here in the now. The practice of coming back to the moment from wherever my mind has wandered takes practice.

There’s a quote that I love from Martha Graham’s autobiography., “Blood Memory”. She wrote, “I am a dancer. I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or to live by practicing living, the principles are the same. In each it is the performance of a dedicated precise set of acts, physical or intellectual, from which comes shape of achievement, a sense of one’s being, a satisfaction of spirit. One becomes in some area an athlete of God.”

Saw a headline this morning, “How Trauma Can Lead to Addiction and How to Treat it”. Didn’t read the article. Now I wonder if I saved it somewhere?

I started this post weeks ago. Now we’re days away from the election. I’m not even looking at the “news” or the polls. Too anxiety provoking.

Today, right here, right now, we changed the clocks and some clouds rolled in. Rain is coming. Thank you for this quiet rainy Sunday. There’s plenty to do. Change the sheets and make some food. I’m soaking tapioca for pudding. There are some soup ideas being milled over. Vegetable with beans? Pumpkin with coconut and curry, ginger and carrots? A salad-ee something too? Quinoa with cucumber and feta?

Anyway, all that to say again, there’s plenty to do. Make lists and check off what’s done. No facebook. No instagram. No doom scrolling. Stay in the moment. Train your focus by continuing to come back.

Mah Jong tiles.

I’m selling on eBay now. Things that have been sitting in drawers for fifty years. Beautiful clothes that have been hanging in closets. Pretty easy and fun. A few bucks here and there.

What else? Swimming at the Y. Walking outside. Resting. Taking it slow and steady. Taking good care. Holding light for the earth. There are angels all around.

Be well. Back soon. ☮️🙏🏻🦋
