Saturday morning…

stay on the path

Thoughts….

Martha Graham, Practice in the face of all obstacles.

Dance as medicine.

Yoga as medicine.

Depression flow….ebbs and flows. On the up….broad expanse of meadow…all inspiration.

Maintain practice even in the valleys.

Pause at the top of the breath and at the bottom…not so long that I need to suck air in in desperation……just inhale casually..pause……exhale casually…..pause…..by this practice I am renewed.

As in dance, as in asana, as in music….practice routine before improvisation. As in AA, as in cooking, as in life.

In the case of AA, what seems archaic and hokey, the practice of showing up, reading the preamble, how it works, reading from the literature, the corny old sayings i.e., first things first, easy does it etc. serve as our dance steps…..we come in with skepticism and fear. We act “as if”. We stay sober one day at a time. This is our practice. Life opens up. We are transformed. We can begin to dance in the flow of life.

Tom Robbins said, “Strange travel suggestions are just dancing lessons from god”.

Just the act of a simple breath guided sun A’s repeated several times brings energy to the brain and body. This practice brings me out of the valley and to the broad highway.

We “fake it ‘til we make it”. Suddenly we find we believe in a power greater than ourselves. We improvise a god of our understanding. We search through prayer and meditation. We improve our conscience contact.

Through the practice I am set free.

  1. I could read “How It Works” a thousand times (in fact, I probably have) and never tire of it. Congratulations on starting this project! I look forward to reading more.

    1. Thank you so much Gina. I believe that you are the first person to say, “write” when I used to post little musings on Facebook. Now you are the first to comment! The learning curve for this is a bit steep at the moment. Hopefully I’ll get the hang of it!
